My 30 Days of Jewelry Cleaning
October 27, 2020Smart Shine Tips: Three Ways to Sell More Jewelry Cleaner Online
February 4, 2021We’re covering the essentials of selecting the right jewelry care products for your store.
Maybe you already understand the value of carrying a private-label jewelry care line. You offer a product that is exclusive to your brand. And, your customers carry home a product that is an extension of your brand and reinforces brand loyalty.
But maybe you’re just not sure how to get started. What type of jewelry cleaner is right for your brand? Which formula should you recommend to your customers? Use the tips below to help you pick the right jewelry cleaner.
What kind of jewelry do you sell?
Often our customers want to focus on the packaging first, but we always want to find the right product to clean the majority of items in their store. Things to consider:
- Does bridal top the list?
- The Sparkle + Shine® Stick is the product to carry
- Do you have a huge watch team and following?
- Our Clean + Care® Professional Ultrasonic Cleaner includes a watch holder. It suspends the watch face above the water allowing only the metal bracelet to be soaked for a thorough at-home cleaning.
- Are your cases awash in pearls?
- You would want to opt for Gentle Jewelry Cleaner
- Do you carry antique or larger fashion pieces?
- For these items we recommend using a Foaming Jewelry Cleaner or Jewelry & Watch Cleansing Wipes. Both of these cleaners can easily and effectively clean jewelry without soaking.
- Do you specialize in silver jewelry?
- Kingswood offers Silver Jewelry Cleaner that has a nice lavender scent to help mask the odor typically found in similar products, allowing for a more enjoyable consumer experience.

What kind of gemstones and metals will be cleaned?
Consumers of course will be cleaning the jewelry they just purchased from you, but they also have other pieces in their collection at-home. Make sure they have the right cleaning formulas to clean all of their jewelry.
To decide which cleaner would be best, first determine the most delicate component of your jewelry. Example: if it includes harder stones like diamonds, but also pearls then you would recommend the cleaner suitable for pearls. What about other soft, porous, or delicate gemstones? Plated metals? Antique pieces? If you answered “yes” to any of these then a gentle, non-ammoniated cleaning formula should be used.
If the piece of jewelry only contains hard gemstones like diamonds and durable metals like gold or platinum, then a cleaner specially formulated for fine jewelry would give the best clean.
Does your store location or customer base cater to a traveling or an “On-the-Go” type clientele?
Is your store in a destination retail location? Are your customers on the go? Are your bridal customers planning a honeymoon? Or do you think they’d appreciate a cleaning option that they can tuck in their purse, gym bag or desk drawer? Hint: they would.
Offering a compact, TSA-friendly option is a great way to enhance your product offerings. Once your customers are cleaning their jewelry at home using products from you, they are going to want to clean their pieces while they are on the go. Consider these products that are flexible to travel with and smaller in size:

Why is cleaning jewelry two steps?
Be sure to teach your customers that cleaning jewelry is a two-step process of cleaning and polishing. Cleaning can be done with liquid cleaners, sticks, wipes and even a Clean + Care Professional Ultrasonic Cleaner. This will remove germs, grime, and oils from the surface of gemstones and metals. Polishing won’t clean as well as a liquid cleaner, but finishing with a Professional Polishing Cloth will remove tarnish, smudges, and fingerprints for a complete shine.
And if you want to make things easy for your customers, consider offering a jewelry care cleaning system that combines a cleansing product or products with a polishing cloth for the perfect finishing touch.
Did you know? Consumers want expert care tips to keep their jewelry clean at home between professional cleanings. Sharing with them how to clean then polish their jewelry will make you the expert, and offering high-quality cleaning products with your logo and branding will reinforce that trust.
